Getting started

The best quality of SIM is its simplicity.
The installation consists of copying a directory containing about ten files, anywhere on your PC.

Your PC is always safe!
The simplicity of the installation also allows SIM to be used in many configurations of directories and of network, or cloud, for which you can consult us.

On some websites, you will find an installer.exe file to download.
Once you have executed this program, the files are copied from the GSM website to a directory of your choice. DESKTOP/SIM is the one by default.


The Change directory button allows you to install anywhere on your disk.
The Install button performs the loading.
The Start button executes SIM. All you have to do is create a shortcut on your desktop or taskbar.

On some websites, you will find a SIM.zip file to download.
It is a compressed SIM directory.
The installation procedure is described in a video on the website or in an installation.pdf document that you will also find on the website.
People who often use a PC will be able to load the file, decompress it and install a shortcut without the help of a manual.

The first button to know is the HELP button at the top right of most screens.


It opens the window above which allows you to:
- Display the user manual.
The "smart-inventory-manager-manual.pdf" file is opened with the default PDF reader on your PC.
If this document does not open, it is because it has not been loaded, you can retrieve it from the website, or you need to install Adobe Reader.
This is not an online help, you can even consult the manual offline. Adobe Reader allows you to search for text with the Ctrl-F key.
- To access the website.
Would you like to watch an instructional video? Consult a price list? Upload a document or an update? Go to the website in one click.
All the information is there. Please note that SIM never needs an Internet connection, except for this function, no internet connection is required.
- To send an email to the support.
This button sends an email to your default client (if it is not installed, ask your IT professional) with the SOLTI support address.
Just type your question and the support will take care of your problem.
This button triggers also the creation of two files on your desktop.
These files are copies of your settings and data.
It is advisable to attach them to the email so that your problem can be handled more easily.
Warning: Sending the GSM.mdb data file by any other means is prohibited by most e-mail accounts.
- Display your PC serial number.
TThe number preceded by a # is a "serial number" that identifies your device. This number is used to issue you a license.
This number is not the manufacturer's number, but it is unique for each device. br>Since the 2.90 version, a click on this number allows you to know your license status.
Below 40 references, no license is required.
YYou can test all the features of your SIM free of cost. Beyond that you need a simple license, and possibly a license with one or more options.

This is the default look of a SIM screen. 
 

All screens are part of a global window that includes both tabs and a HELP button.
The basic version has only 6 tabs.
Each tab represents a different activity or role: not all stakeholders in a stock have the same needs.
Then, in each screen corresponding to a tab:

• Search boxes (or combo lists).
• The data display area, called DataGridView by Microsoft, is a table by users.
• The buttons section which provides, according to the tab, the actions you may perform on the selected line.

Each line of the displayed data is called a entry.
Most of the actions accessible with the buttons refer to an entry, which must be selected by clicking on the left of the corresponding line.
This precaution avoids launching actions without having explicitly chosen the line.


Each column of the table (DataGrid or grid) can be expanded or narrowed by selecting and dragging the line that separates two column headings.
A double click will expand the column to the "right" width. At the next launch your widths will be restored.

The data is sorted by default by date.
To change the order, simply click on the heading of each column to order in reverse alphabetical or alphabetical order.
This user-friendly function is more accessible than with Excel.

To improve your work in important databases, the search boxes allow you to display only records that meet certain criteria.
For example, to search for products such as "bolts", enter the word "bolts" in the designation box, press "enter" or the button on the right.
Only entries that contain the word screw in the designation will be displayed.
You could also use "bol" or "olts" to simplify. In the basic version of SIM, it is not possible to combine the criteria.
To display the entire database again, use the "refresh" button.
For subsequent searches, use the arrow on the search box, which stores the last 10 searches in a list.

There are two types of barcode readers:

• USB handhelds connected to the PC (sometimes wireless)
• Independent readers with memory

In the first case, the reader works exactly like an extension of the keyboard: scanning is possible whenever the software requires input, and above all the keyboard configuration is important.
So if you notice incorrect characters when scanning, check the settings of your reader which must correspond to the keyboard (probably English) and in general, USE THE CAPS LOCK KEY.
